April 2016: My friend Mohini currently in India visited the Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha, a cow rescue center and sanctuary located in Koramangala Banglore India. Cows and other animals are given a great degree of respect and freedom in Hindu culture, with most Hindus being vegetarian and India being famous for allowing cows and other animals to roam freely. However, this allowance for free movement of the subcontinent's cows has made it difficult to protect them from unscrupulous persons who take no issue with kidnapping cows and transporting them to other regions for slaughter, usually Muslims. Because of this growing epidemic of cow flesh trade, Hindus and other animal lovers have begun to operate centers like Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha where the nation's cows and other animals can be housed and protected from hunters. However, there are of course operation costs for this noble endeavor which include not only feeding and housing the cows, but also purchasing cows back from slaughterhouses and the legal fees associated with these operations. To aid Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha in their cause, My friend Mohini Sarin donated toward the organization for the rescue and adoption of a cow. Anyone wishing to donate to Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha should contact Sunil Dugar (9341230748) or Sajjan Raj (9980788468). Donations schemes and pictures can be viewed below.
